Style, swag, flows and melodies, JC has it all! Currently the talk around town it’s hard to put him in a box as he literally does everything. If you want rap or RnB you’re in the right place. Describing some of his songs as himself featuring himself signals his own belief in his versatility.
Though it being early in his career his song “New Kid On The Block” was a self-proclaimed message of what JC is all about. Energy and flare mixed with tight raps and a slick video give off the vibe that JC is a well-seasoned artist, not bad for his first video at all. JC is definitely one to watch in 2021.
A voice you can listen to for hours on end. Raheaven sweet vocals chords and unique tone make for a really special listen, complimenting the vibe of her music perfectly. Coming out of North London, from a musical family, Raheaven puts her own personality and energy into her songs and I love it!
Where old school RnB meets atmospheric synths and even pop tones, Raheaven as a unique edge of talking her sh*t. Where vulnerable she’s fierce, and in places where she should be sad she fights back, that’s another thing I love about her tracks. We need this confidence! I’m excited to see what 2021 has in store for Raheaven.
Representing Liverpool Koj is an artist you should definitely pay attention to. Already a seasoned MC in the Grime scene you may have seen Koj through freestyles and radio sets (Wavey Joe) but it’s his new artist project that has me hooked. Sometimes you just need that one song to let people know what time it is, and I feel “Blue Notes” does just that. When I say I play this song back-to-back almost every day it’s no joke! His flow is clean, lyrics tell a story while painting a picture full of raw emotions.
When it comes to rapping clarity can really make a difference and it’s in this area Koj stands with his chest held high. Word for word Koj delivers his message clearly with clever punchlines definitely deserving the wheeeeel! Although it’s early, I would love to hear a full project from Koj.
Every now and again I stumble across undiscovered gems and today we have Serrin Joy. Quality RnB, I’ve been scratching my head as to why the world doesn’t know about her right now. Originally from Akron, Ohio, Serrin Joy moved to New York in pursuit of her music career. Something is definitely going right because somehow the talented artist found a fan in me!
Recently making her way on to the infamous Riffs and Runs Spotify playlist, one more thing to point out is how good her song writing is. Sweetly flowing songs, I can imagine Serrin Joy not only creating her own bangers, but writing hits for your favourite artists worldwide! Make sure you check her out.
With Drill music dominating everything right now it makes sense to hear more artists expressing themselves in the genre. Meet Hoxton’s own MBC, a rapper with an edge. Lyrically sound, MBC comes through with a grit and authenticity that not only draws you in, but also makes you want to know more.
Since dropping his first track near the start of the year MBC has been making steady progress, reaching 100k views on his video Peaky Blinders. At first recommended to me by a friend (shout out @kemistarr!) I sat with his latest release and eventually played him in my show, it was a very good fit.
