Hello and welcome to a brand new feature on my blog! If you’re coming across me for first time, I’m Robert Bruce the broadcaster (Rob Bruce more times). You can catch me on Capital Xtra Monday to Thursday 7-10pm and Saturday 4-7pm for the strictly UK music show, HOMEGROWN.

On Thursday nights I present a wicked feature called ‘First Play In The UK’ where I find an artist that has never been played on National radio before and give them their first on air moment!

But enough about that, this is 5 artists under 5k. A space where I share five artists’ with less than five thousand Instagram followers that deserve to shouted about.

SOLO B

Insta: @SoloBMusic –  3.1k

Coming out of one of my favourite cities in the UK, Manchester’s very own Solo B is someone you need to be across. Where Afrobeats meets R&B, Dancehall and Rap, Solo B is not someone you can put in a box. His quality sound sits perfectly amongst well-seasoned artist, while still having that fresh vibe.

My Favourite song: Déjà vu

MOKO

Insta: @1UpMoko – 1.5k (April, 2020)

If I could sum up Moko in one word it would be, SLICK. But he is way more than that. Lyrics with meaning and music with a story will always be a winner for me. Blending his smooth cadence with real talks, I’m super excited to see what happens next for the South-East Londoner.

My Favourite song: Eighteen

TIANA BLAKE

Insta: @_Tianablake – 2.4k

R&B through and through. Keeping it in the South East, Tiana Blake is a name that needs no introduction. With her debut single Cut Ties sitting on over one million streams and going straight to the radio, Tiana could be one of the UK’s best kept secret at the moment!

My Favourite song: Cut Ties

5YFFE

Insta: @5yffe – 1.7k

His bio reads, “I create stuff I like” and he’s not the only one who likes the stuff he creates. With inspirations such as Wretch 32 and J Cole, 5ffye’s smooth melodies and flows blend well with minimal Hip Hop and RnB beats.

My favourite song: Motherland

Also check out: Finer Finking

KYNG MIA

Insta: @kyngmia – 1.1k

Straight into my inbox with a few unreleased tracks and I was locked in. Confidence and talent Kyng Mia will defo be talked about in months to come. Steadily building his catalogue and following, the Deptford resident tells his stories through raps that are clear and flavoursome.

My favourite track: How We Live (Insurance, unreleased)
